New Call of Duty. Same old story. The menu looks great, then your first firefight drops to 70 FPS and your shots feel a half-second late.
I’m Asb. I’ve optimized 3,000+ PCs since 2021, and about 90% of my clients are Call of Duty players. I know exactly where CoD PCs lose frames. Below are the free fixes I check first, in the order I check them.
What MW4 actually asks for
MW4 launched October 23. The recommended spec is a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700K, 16GB of RAM and an RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6600 XT or Arc B580, and it targets 90 FPS in multiplayer on High settings. That is 90 FPS, not 240. If you play competitive, you want far more than that, which means tuning. kitguru
Two things catch people out. The game needs 115GB of SSD space. And TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required to play on PC. kitguruinsider-gaming
Free fix 1: Turn off Frame Generation
This is the big one. Frame Gen makes the counter say a high number, but it adds input delay. For a game with fast kills, you want real frames, not fake ones.
I had a client with an RTX 5090 and a Ryzen 9950X3D, about the best hardware you can buy. He was fighting input delay in Warzone. A previous technician had left Frame Generation switched on. I turned it off, optimized the system, and the delay was gone. The same trap exists in MW4. For reference, my own Warzone benchmark with a 9800X3D and RTX 5080 hits 300+ real FPS without framegen.
Free fix 2: Ray tracing off
The ray tracing preset calls for a Ryzen 7 3700X or better, 32GB of RAM and a card like the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT. Even on a strong PC, it costs frames you want back in a gunfight. Competitive players should leave it off and spend that GPU power on FPS. kitguru
Free fix 3: Clean graphics driver
Most crashes and random stutter come from a bad driver install. On Nvidia, skip the Nvidia app. I’ve had clients get a black screen after installing it. Go to nvidia.com/drivers, download the Game Ready driver and install drivers only. If problems stay, do a clean install with DDU. On AMD, use the driver from amd.com the same way.
Free fix 4: Lower the settings that cost the most
MW4 has over 800 settings, so don’t touch them all. Start with the heavy ones: shadows, volumetric and particle effects, ambient occlusion and reflections. Drop them to low, then raise texture quality only as far as your VRAM allows. Turn off motion blur and depth of field. Test, then adjust one thing at a time. dsogaming
Free fix 5: RAM and storage
Check that XMP or EXPO is enabled in your BIOS. Many PCs run RAM at a slow default speed and nobody notices. Make sure you have two sticks in dual channel. Keep MW4 on an SSD with free space left over. If you have an Intel Arc GPU, Resizable Bar is required. insider-gaming
Free fix 6: Windows basics
Set the power plan to High performance. Turn on Game Mode. Close Discord overlays, browsers and RGB software before you queue. Let the game finish its shader setup before your first match so you don’t get stutter right away.
What not to waste time on
Disabling Fullscreen Optimizations. I’ve tested it on Windows 11 and it doesn’t help. Skip it and fix what actually moves the needle.
Is it your settings or your hardware?
If you did all of this and still sit under your target, one of two things is happening. Either Windows and your background setup are holding the PC back, or the hardware really is the limit. Those need different fixes, and one of them costs nothing.
That’s why I start with a free PC check. I look at your system and tell you which one it is. If your hardware is the problem, I’ll tell you, and you won’t spend a cent with me. I’d rather lose a sale than waste your money.
If the PC is the issue, I handle it for you. PC Optimization is $75, Windows Optimization is $35, or $100 for both. Message me at asbgaming.com and get your free PC check first.
Notes for you
I left out MW4 client results because I don’t have your real numbers for the new game. If you’ve tested MW4 on any client or personal rig, paste in your before and after FPS under Free Fix 1 and it will hit much harder.
Fix 4 lists the setting types that cost the most in CoD games, not exact MW4 menu values. If your own testing shows different results, swap those in.
I can also write the next one on MW4 input delay or MW4 stuttering if you want to keep pushing the money keywords.
